Mirapoint, Inc., a leading provider of Internet infrastructure solutions for business communications, today announced that it secured $21 million in a third-round of funding co-led by Goldman Sachs and Amerindo Investment Advisors Inc. Additional investors included Franklin Small Cap Growth Fund and Nissho Electronics of Tokyo, as well as Mirapoint's original "angel" investors, Worldview Technology Partners and MKS Ventures. This funding will support the company's rapidly expanding product development initiatives, as well as worldwide sales and marketing programs.
"It's becoming clear that standards-based Internet protocols are emerging as the foundation of unified messaging, which is why we're part of this round of financing for Mirapoint," said Abraham Bleiberg, vice president at Goldman Sachs. "The company's appliance approach to developing Internet-based messaging solutions will help accelerate the convergence of e-mail, voice, fax and video over IP."
Mirapoint is the creator of the industry's first truly reliable, cost-effective Internet messaging servers that help global enterprises and service providers solve today's most urgent e-mail problems. On August 30, 1999, the company added a new product family of dedicated messaging appliances to its award-winning M100 and M1000 product line. The new Series 200 messaging appliances - application-specific servers for standards-based e-mail services -- are the industry's first turnkey solutions designed specifically to address the demanding reliability and security requirements of e-mail outsourcing for enterprises, and carrier-grade service and functionality demands for shared e-mail service provisioning.
Since the launch of its initial Internet e-mail server appliance in December, 1998, Mirapoint has been acknowledged with several prestigious industry achievements that include being named as one of the "Top 25 Hot Startups of 1998" by Data Communications Magazine. The company also won the "Best of Show Award" in the Network Server Systems and Peripherals category at NetWorld+Interop 99 Las Vegas. In addition, Mirapoint has been awarded Network World's "Blue Ribbon Award" for product excellence.
"The interest and investment of such notable firms as Goldman Sachs, Franklin Templeton, Amerindo and Nissho Electronics is a clear acknowledgment of the importance of the messaging marketplace and a key endorsement of Mirapoint's significance in this rapidly expanding global market," said Satish Ramachandran, founder and CEO of Mirapoint, Inc. "With this latest round of financing, we're well positioned to execute against our aggressive product development, marketing and sales programs."
