INVESTMENT STRATEGY

Entrepia Ventures’ investment strategy consists of three elements:

  • Targeting high-growth technology sectors to identify investment opportunities that Entrepia believes fundamentally feature attractive potential venture capital returns (even without a “Japan leg”)
  • Overlaying on these investment opportunities the additional criterion of incremental value potential through business development in Japan
  • Actively working with portfolio companies to realize the value opportunity represented by effective access to Japan

In selecting its prospective investments, Entrepia focuses on privately-held companies that offer:

  • Unique products, services and/or business models
  • High reliability and applicability in their products and services
  • Strong domestic sales channels and customer validation
  • High potential for Japanese market penetration

Overlay value potential from leveraging access to Japan

Before executing any investments, Entrepia conducts an in-depth study to identify resources that will be useful to a prospective portfolio company in expanding its business in Japan. At the same time, Entrepia undertakes a detailed review of the company by mobilizing its in-house staff, or soliciting support from various channel partners, distributors and customers who have solid business experience in the same industry as that of the prospective company. Through the eyes of industry experts, the competitive advantages and market potential of each prospect are carefully evaluated. For this reason, it is important that prospective companies have at least a beta-stage product.

Delivering incremental value

For many venture companies, sales activities are limited to the North American market, simply due to the lack of resources needed to implement global sales. As an investor, Entrepia has helped many venture companies generate sales overseas, particularly in Japan. With Entrepia’s extended support, many venture companies have gained a foothold for global business expansion; and have generated incremental value.

It is important to note that Entrepia’s approach to delivering value goes well beyond making introductions to prospective customers. Entrepia’s team has expertise in company formation, product marketing, international business development, financial markets, strategic planning and corporate management. Entrepia also works with its affiliates to seek to arrange the right team of partners to assist in efforts to sell and support portfolio companies’ products and services quickly and efficiently.

In addition to product sales by distribution affiliates, customer feedback from Entrepia’s affiliates’ marketing efforts helps direct the portfolio companies’ product development strategy as well as furnish fresh market insights to help guide Entrepia’s investment strategy.
